When dealing with chronic pain, it can oftentimes be a struggle just to get through the day. In order to help his patients to cope with chronic pain more effectively, Scottsdale pain management specialist Dr. Sham Vengurlekar is suggesting these simple steps to take for overall better quality of life.
1. Increase calcium intake.
It is common knowledge that calcium increases bone strength, but it may not be common knowledge to know that calcium is not absorbed into the body effectively if Vitamin D levels are insufficient. It’s important to remember to raise both levels of these crucial nutrients for maximum effect. One of the easiest ways to increase your Vitamin D is to spend some time in the sun!
2. Get in the Water
Exercising is important to those with chronic pain. Staying stagnant can actually increase the pain that some chronic pain patients feel. When exercising with chronic pain, however, it’s important to do exercises that are low-impact. The best way to do this, shares Scottsdale pain management specialist Dr. Sham Vengurlekar, is to do some “water-size.” Being in the water takes the strain off of one’s joints since they are extremely low impact. Patients with fibromyalgia and arthritis will definitely see the benefits of participating in this sort of exercise.
3. Keep a record.
Another great way to deal with chronic pain is to keep a detailed log of how you feel throughout the day. This information is extremely helpful to your physician. Journal entries should include a level of pain felt, activity levels, moods, times of the day and more.
